Lately I have been looking at myself in a different light.
Occasionally I will study my hand, looking at how amazing God truly is. The God who created the entire universe. Who sets everything into motion. Nothing can happen without His knowing about it. This is a God who is totally involved in not only the world around us, but every little thing about us.
Your hair grows because He makes it grow. That beautiful colour in your eyes was chosen by Him especially for you. All these little details..show the great character of our God, my God.
Surely, we can rely on Him for everything..Surely we can find joy in any circumstance even if it is just for the fact that we have His relationship. Even someone who is completley paralysed is not void of a relationship with God..even if they cannot speak or see or hear...their spirit can be perfect..when I say perfect I mean they can hear God, see God and speak to God through their Spirit and He can speak to them through His Spirit.
Everytime I go to spend time with Him, I feel His warm presence fill the room and everything around me. I tell Him what makes me scared and He brings me comfort. Today I had to have a blood test and as I was sitting in the waiting room I felt like passing out from terror...
I told God about my fear and asked if He could please make this process as safe and painless as possible.
When I finally got in to have the test, the lady was very lovely to me (I have veins that are very hard to find at times and she was quite patient), I ended up having to have the needle in what is usually the most painful part, the hand. But, because of the grace and love of God, it wasnt very painful at all. I feel His favour in my life, I feel His faithfulness. I even feel a change in the way I approach Him and talk to Him. I'm not like a demanding child sitting on His lap asking for everything I want and bargaining with Him "If you do this for me..I promise I will do this for you..".
No. Its more of a relationship now and coming to the conclusion that I have no right to demand anything of God. I should only pray for the humility and wisdom to see what He does is best, in ALL circumstances.
As Elihu says in the book of Job, why argue and blame God? Do we have a right to? No, I think not. The quicker we realise this..the more enjoyable our relationship with God is and the more your prayers are answered...because your prayers become the same as His.
One thing I never quite got about the whole "Ask anything in Gods Name and you WILL get it if you believe" is how people completley turn that around. As if God is some sort of Santa Claus who is waiting to give me everything I ask for.
Shouldnt the teaching in Church be more in the lines of.. "Change our hearts so that we want what You want"?
One of my biggest prayer requests now is for humility. Humility is so so so so rare and it is such a precious gift. To be humble of heart..to be meek...its an amazing gift!! Better than money, better than sex, better than anything. It is the meek who shall inherit the earth. And the more humble you become..the more joy you have. The more you can enjoy God..and He can enjoy you.
Job 37:14-24
14 -18 "Job, are you listening? Have you noticed all this?
Stop in your tracks! Take in God's miracle-wonders! Do you have any idea how God does it all,
how he makes bright lightning from dark storms, How he piles up the cumulus clouds—
all these miracle-wonders of a perfect Mind? Why, you don't even know how to keep cool
on a sweltering hot day, So how could you even dream
of making a dent in that hot-tin-roof sky?
19 -22 "If you're so smart, give us a lesson in how to address God.
We're in the dark and can't figure it out. Do you think I'm dumb enough to challenge God?
Wouldn't that just be asking for trouble? No one in his right mind stares straight at the sun
on a clear and cloudless day. As gold comes from the northern mountains,
so a terrible beauty streams from God.
23 -24 "Mighty God! Far beyond our reach!
Unsurpassable in power and justice!
It's unthinkable that he'd treat anyone unfairly. So bow to him in deep reverence, one and all!
If you're wise, you'll most certainly worship him."
